Visit Cheonan

Taejosan Mountain, known for its exquisite scenery, contains watersheds such as Yuryangcheon and Sanbangcheon streams, and one can take in a full view of the city at its peak. The mountain was given the name, Taejosan, based on the legend that Taejo, the founder of Goryeo, built the military forces around this area. At Gagwonsa Temple of the Jogye Order, bronze Buddha statues were enshrined on May 9, 1977, with the donations made by Buddhists and others praying for the reunification of Korea.
The massive bronze statue of the Buddha weighing 60 tons is measured to be 15m high and 30m in circumference, with 175cm long ears, 30cm long nails. The bronze seated Buddha statue faces the west, with the main peak of Taejosan Mountain in the back, and receives visitors with a benignant and welcoming smile. Situated to the left of the seated Buddha statue are the nicely arranged temple buildings including the Daeungbojeon Hall, which is the largest of its kind in Korea, receive numerous Buddhists who visit to pray to the Buddha.
